Chikurinji Honbo Kuri is a contemporary religious residential complex completed in 2019, located at Godaisan in Kochi Prefecture. Designed by Yasushi Horibe Architects, this structure skillfully integrates traditional temple functions with modern architectural sensibilities. The building serves as both the abbot's residence and monastic kitchen facilities, essential components of temple life. Its design demonstrates thoughtful consideration of Buddhist spatial requirements while employing contemporary materials and construction methods. The project exemplifies how historic temple architecture can evolve through sensitive modern intervention, creating a functional living and working environment that respects both tradition and contemporary needs.
