Kanagawa University's International Student Dormitory, completed in 2019, represents an innovative approach to residential design by treating the building as a small town. Located in Yokohama, this collaborative project by architects Naoko Mantama, Tsukasa Nishida, Yuko Kaminaga, Kohei Nishida, and ON design creates a vibrant community space that transcends traditional dormitory conventions. The facility seamlessly integrates shared living areas with private spaces, fostering social interaction among international students while maintaining individual comfort. Through thoughtful spatial planning and architectural expression, the structure establishes itself as both a functional residence and a dynamic urban-like environment that celebrates cultural exchange and communal living.
