Obuchisawa Station Building and Plaza, completed in 2018, represents a contemporary approach to regional railway architecture in Yamanashi Prefecture. This multifunctional facility seamlessly integrates transportation infrastructure with public space design. Designed collaboratively by JR East Architectural Design Office, Atsuharu Kitakawara Architects and Urban Research Institute, and East Japan Railway Company's Hachioji Branch, the project demonstrates thoughtful urban planning for a growing community. The station serves as both a functional transit hub and a welcoming public gathering space, exemplifying modern station design that prioritizes community engagement alongside practical transportation needs.
