Located in Tokyo's Komaba district, this research complex completed in 1999 represents a significant contribution to academic architecture. Designed by renowned architect Hiroshi Hara in collaboration with Atelier Phi and Tokyo University's planning offices, the facility comprises multiple interconnected buildings serving as laboratories and research centers. The complex houses the Institute of Industrial Science, the Research Center for Advanced Science and Technology, and the International and Industry-Collaborative Research Center. The design thoughtfully integrates diverse research functions while maintaining visual and functional coherence across the expansive campus, exemplifying contemporary approaches to university infrastructure that balance practical requirements with architectural excellence.
