KIOKU is a museum and memorial facility dedicated to the 2016 Kumamoto earthquakes, located in Minami-Aso Village. Completed in 2023, this architectural project was designed by Onishi Asaki and Momota Yuki of O+H architects in collaboration with Sanko Design. The facility serves as both an experiential and exhibition space, documenting the devastating earthquakes and their aftermath. Its design thoughtfully balances the commemoration of disaster with hope for recovery, making it an important cultural landmark for understanding resilience and community restoration in post-disaster architecture.
