Kokuritsu Terrace, completed in 2024, represents a contemporary approach to traditional Japanese housing typology. Designed by Kurokawa Tomoyuki Architects, this terrace house project is located in Kokuritsu, Tokyo, and reimagines the classic rowhouse format for modern urban living. The development thoughtfully balances density with individual character, offering residents the communal benefits of terrace housing while maintaining privacy and distinct architectural identity. This project demonstrates how contemporary design can respectfully engage with historical housing models, creating livable spaces that foster community while meeting contemporary residential needs and sustainability considerations.
