Sakamoto Onsen Center, completed in 1995, represents a distinctive approach to commercial spa architecture in rural Kumamoto Prefecture. Designed by architect Hidekichi Tsugano of Jiyukoubo, this facility seamlessly integrates modern design principles with the traditional Japanese bathing culture. Located in Kawatake, Sakamoto Village, the center exemplifies thoughtful architectural planning that respects both functional requirements and the natural landscape. The building's design reflects the period's innovative thinking about public leisure spaces, combining contemporary structural techniques with warm, inviting interiors that enhance the therapeutic bathing experience.
