The Mejiro Ochiai House, completed in 2018 in Shinjuku Ward, Tokyo, represents a contemporary approach to traditional Japanese housing. Designed by Naoya Kawabe Architectural Design Office, this residential complex reimagines the classic rowhouse typology for modern urban living. Situated in a historic neighborhood known for its architectural character, the project thoughtfully addresses the challenge of creating efficient, livable spaces within Tokyo's dense urban fabric. The design balances contemporary functionality with sensitivity to the surrounding streetscape, offering residents both privacy and community engagement while maintaining the distinctive charm of the area's architectural heritage.
