Located in Nakano, Tokyo, this 2015 residential complex represents a distinctive approach to urban infill design. Created by architect Irie Masayuki and his research team at Waseda University in collaboration with DFI, the building integrates multiple functions including residential units, office spaces, and commercial facilities along a major arterial road. Its defining characteristic is the striking white void that punctuates the facade, creating visual breathing space within the dense urban context. This thoughtful intervention demonstrates how contemporary architecture can activate street frontages while providing essential mixed-use programming for the neighborhood.
