Yamanouchi Motomachi Nagaya is a contemporary terrace housing project completed in 2016, located in the Sumiyoshi ward of Osaka. Designed by Uzura Laboratory and the Koike Laboratory at Osaka City University, this development thoughtfully reinterprets the traditional Japanese nagaya housing typology for modern living. The project demonstrates a sensitive approach to urban residential design, blending historical architectural concepts with contemporary needs and sustainable practices. This work represents an important example of how traditional housing forms can be revitalized through innovative architectural thinking and community-focused design principles in contemporary Japanese urbanism.
